Nursing graduation and development of professional skills: the teachers' perceptions

Resumo: A descriptive and essentially quantitative field research was carried out in order to describe and analyze how teachers see the ideal and actual contributions of a private higher education Nursing course of Belo Horizonte, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, to the development of the students' professional skills, given the importance of its role in Academic and Professional Nursing Training. Data were collected through document survey, direct observation and, mainly, through a questionnaire given to 39 teachers and nurses of the course - 23 of them were filled out and returned. Data were introduced into an electronic spreadsheet. Analysis showed that teachers validated specific ideas with regards to an ideal situation, as mentioned in the Curricular Guidelines of the Nursing Undergraduate Course and the general items of the Fleury & Fleury model. However, when they were asked about the actual course's contribution to graduation and development of skills, "unsatisfactory" classification was observed. Therefore, questions about the institution's policies and practices and about students and teachers' behavior were raised. In the end, the limitations of the research were highlighted, and suggestions for the course, for the institution, and for further studies were given.

In the end, the limitations of the research were highlighted, and suggestions for the course, for the institution, and for further studies were given.Con el objetivo de describir y analizar las percepciones de los profesores en relación a las contribuciones - tanto ideales como reales - del curso de Enfermería de una institución particular de Enseñanza Superior localizada en Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brasil, para el desarrollo de competencias profesionales de los alumnos y considerando la importancia de su papel en la formación académica y profesional del Enfermero, se procedió a realizar una investigación descriptiva de campo con enfoque esencialmente cuantitativo. En la recogida de datos se utilizó el estudio documental, la observación directa y, principalmente, un cuestionario distribuido entre los 39 docentes-enfermeros del curso; 23 se completaron y devolvieron y sus datos se tabularon mediante planilla electrónica. En cuanto a los resultados analizados, se destaca que desde el punto de vista de lo ideal, de lo que se desea como contribución del curso, los profesores investigados convalidaron los preceptos específicos de las Directrices Curriculares del Curso de Grado en Enfermería y los generales del modelo de Fleury e Fleury. Sin embargo, cuando se les preguntó sobre la contribución real del curso para la formación y desarrollo de tales competencias hubo nivel "insatisfactorio" cuestionando las políticas prácticas pedagógicas elaboradas en la Institución de Enseñanza Superior y las conductas tanto de alumnos como de profesores. Al final se destacaron las limitaciones de la investigación, sugerencias para estudios futuros, para el curso y para la Institución de Enseñanza Superior, considerando posibilidades de mejora.O objetivo com esta pesquisa de campo descritiva e com abordagem essencialmente quantitativa foi descrever e analisar as percepções dos professores quanto às contribuições - ideais e reais - do curso de enfermagem de uma instituição de ensino superior (IES) privada situada em Belo Horizonte-MG, Brasil, para o desenvolvimento de competências profissionais dos alunos, tendo em vista a importância de seu papel na formação acadêmica e profissional do enfermeiro. Na coleta de dados, foram utilizados o levantamento documental, a observação direta e, principalmente, um questionário, distribuído para os 39 docentes-enfermeiros do curso, sendo que 23 foram devolvidos preenchidos e os dados foram tabulados com o auxílio de uma planilha eletrônica. Quanto aos resultados apresentados e analisados, ressalte-se que, do ponto de vista do ideal, do desejado que o curso contribua, os professores pesquisados validaram os preceitos específicos das Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais para os Cursos de Graduação em Enfermagem e os gerais do modelo de Fleury e Fleury. Porém, quando questionados sobre a contribuição real do curso para a formação e o desenvolvimento de tais competências, os níveis "insatisfatórios" se fizeram presentes, colocando em "xeque" as políticas e práticas pedagógicas desenvolvidas na IES e as condutas tanto de alunos quanto de professores.
