Impaired verbal communication: activities in practice vs. activities proposed in literature

Resumo: Nurse-patient communication is an essential tool to identify the state of patients' health and the success of the treatment plan; This study surveyed the literature for interventions and activities for the nursing diagnosis of "impaired verbal communication", comparing compare them with those proposed by the Nursing Intervention Classifications (NIC). It also intended to identify activities nurse clinicians say they perform. Interventions identified in the literature partially corresponded to those proposed by NIC. Nurse clinicians perform 69.34% of these activities, but reported that 7,09% of these interventions are not used, either due to a lack of knowledge or resources. It is suggested that educational programs cover the nursing interventions proposed by NIC and others identified in literature.

El presente estudio ha buscado identificar en la literatura intervenciones y actividades para el diagnóstico de enfermería "comunicación verbal perjudicada" y compararlas con las que propone la NIC así como identificar las actividades que los enfermeros clínicos dicen llevar a cabo. Se encontró correspondencia parcial entre las intervenciones identificadas en la literatura y aquéllas propuestas por la NIC. Los enfermeros clínicos llevan a cabo 69.34% de las actividades mencionadas, pero relatan que no emplean un 7,09% de las mismas por desconocimiento o falta de recursos. Se sugiere que los programas educativos contemplen las intervenciones de enfermería propuestas por la NIC y las demás identificadas en la literatura.A comunicação enfermeiro/paciente é essencial para identificação do estado de saúde e o sucesso do plano de cuidado. Os objetivos do estudo são identificar, na literatura, intervenções e atividades para o diagnóstico de enfermagem Comunicação Verbal Prejudicada e compará-las com aquelas propostas pela NIC, bem como identificar as atividades que enfermeiros clínicos relatam empregar. Houve correspondência parcial entre as intervenções identificadas na literatura com aquelas propostas pela NIC; os enfermeiros clínicos realizam 69,34% das atividades mencionadas, porém relataram que 7,09% delas não são empregadas por desconhecimento ou falta de recursos.
