Resumo: Article about Brazilian composer Hermeto Pascoal’s utilization of his voice in his music, whether singing, talking, shouting, whispering, praying, coughing, laughing, whistling, producing guttural sounds, alone or simultaneously with wind instruments, keyboards, non-conventional sound objects or even other forms. In considering the use of the voice in the work and life of Hermeto Pascoal, in a comprehensive way, I am seeking to show a lesser known facet of the versatile composer from Northeastern Brazil, as well as revealing that his music and his personality share the same ethics, in which the voice is the instrument.
