Musicum versus Cantor: a Historical Perspective about the Dichotomy between Theorists and Performer Musician

Resumo: This article proposes a reflection on two antagonistic figures: the music performer and the music theorist. Through historical contextualization, it is argued that the concept of music theory is comprehensive and can be interpreted in different ways. Thus, a dialogue is made with the past with the goal of understanding how this dichotomy is perceived nowadays. Considering this dialogue, we discuss the figure of the teacher performer and how the formation of teacher performers is guided by this question.

A través de las contextualizaciones históricas, se demuestra que el concepto de teoría musical es comprensivo y permite diferentes comprensiones. Así, dialogamos con el pasado para comprender mejor lo que se percibe actualmente de esta dicotomía. A partir de aquí, se pretende discutir la figura del profesor-instrumentista y cómo su formación está guiada por la forma en que se entiende este tema.Este artigo propõe uma reflexão acerca do antagonismo entre o músico prático e o músico teórico. Através de contextualizações históricas, demonstra-se que o conceito de teoria musical é abrangente e possibilita diferentes compreensões. Dialoga-se, assim, com o passado, na busca de melhor compreender-se o que se percebe atualmente sobre esta dicotomia.
