Resumo: The Thematic Catalogue of the works by José Maurício Nunes Garcia, published in 1970, by Cleofe Person de Mattos, is a milestone in Brazilian musicology. Firstly, for bringing to the foreground the huge output of the carioca black composer. Secondly, for establishing a new methodological standard for similar enterprises. After 50 years of its publication, though, it is necessary its revision and updating, including items like the possible reorganization of the entries, the inclusion of new entries or works, the individualization of the sources, and many others. For the revision, the documents in the Acervo Cleofe Person de Mattos will be very important, not only to understand the decisions of the scholar in its pioneer research, but also as repository of many of the music sources used in her research.

En primer lugar, poniendo en primer plano la inmensa producción del compositor negro de Río de Janeiro; en segundo lugar, estableciendo un nuevo estándar metodológico, que fue la base de otras empresas del género. Sin embargo, después de casi 50 años de su publicación, es necesario revisarlo y actualizarlo, incluyendo temas como la posible reorganización de las entradas, la inclusión de nuevas entradas u obras, la individualización de las fuentes, y otros más. Para el trabajo de revisión, los documentos existentes en la Cleofe Person Collection of Mattos son fundamentales, no sólo para entender las decisiones de la musicóloga en su investigación pionera, sino también como repositorio de muchas de las fuentes musicales utilizadas en su investigación.O Catálogo Temático das obras de José Maurício Nunes Garcia, publicado em 1970, por Cleofe Person de Mattos, representa um marco na musicologia brasileira. Primeiramente, por colocar em primeiro plano a imensa produção do compositor negro carioca; em segundo lugar, por estabelecer um novo padrão metodológico, que foi a base para outros empreendimentos do gênero. Decorridos quase 50 anos de sua publicação, porém, faz-se necessária sua revisão e atualização incluindo itens, tais como a possível reorganização dos verbetes, a inclusão de novos verbetes ou obras, a individualização das fontes, e outros mais.
