Resumo: Intestinal ostomy is artificial openings created surgically for the diversion of fecal waste, resulting from medical conditions such as Colorectal Neoplasia and Inflammatory Intestinal Diseases. The impact of ostomy manufacture triggers several losses against the control over their eliminations and social acceptance. Therefore, the self-care learning for the colostomy is needed by the patient, since the adaptation of the collection bag until its rehabilitation, being a nurse task the teaching of self-care. This integrative review of the literature study aims to characterize the teaching self-care for people with intestinal ostomy, according to national and international literature. Search held at the Virtual Library of the Basic Health Portal (BVS): LILACS, MEDLINE and SciELO, in the languages Portuguese, Spanish and English, during October / November 2014, with descriptors of Health Sciences (DECS): '' Ostomy '', '' Self Care '' and ''Education ''. Inclusion criteria: articles available in full to approach the teaching of selfcare to intestinal ostomy, excluding studies of literature review, resulting in 05 publications. It identified evidence regarding self-care education by nurses in site of demarcation to be made to ostomy in the preoperative period and learning the handling of collectors equipment, specialized nursing care for self-care education of the adult individual / elderly with limited mobility / disability and socio-cultural particularities. The authors shows that the self-care teaching intestinal ostomy begins on admission to hospital discharge, maintained closed the outpatient follow-up to the management of self-care and support of patients. The teaching of self-care should include 03 learning domains: psychomotor, cognitive, emotional / psychological adaptation. There is need for original studies or randomized clinical trials regarding self-care of the intestinal ostomy teaching, for the studies in the national and international literature only emphasized conceptual and theoretical aspects of the nurse's performance in the face of self-care education. It is recommended studies that include scenarios with subjects inserted in strategies or teaching models for ostomy, addressing the nurse's assistance as an educator using effective strategies and successful for teaching self-care.
