Resumo: The objective of this study was to verify how school physical education teachers stimulate metacognitive strategies during classes. Participating in this study were physical education teachers and students from the 4th, 5th and 6th grades of elementary school, from two public schools in a city in the south of Minas Gerais. Six physical education classes were observed during a school month. Information about these classes was recorded through a class observation protocol. After the last observed class, information about the students' metacognitive strategies was collected through the application of a questionnaire. The results showed that metacognitive strategies were little stimulated in physical education classes. However, the teacher and students from school 1 performed better than the students and teacher from school 2. According to the study, the stimulation of metacognitive strategies occurs infrequently and unconsciously in the context of school physical education.

Participaron de este estudio profesores de educación física y alumnos de 4º, 5º y 6º grado de la enseñanza fundamental, de dos escuelas públicas de un municipio del sur de Minas Gerais. Se observaron seis clases de educación física durante un mes escolar. La información sobre estas clases se registró a través de un protocolo de observación de clases. Después de la última clase observada, se recopiló información sobre las estrategias metacognitivas de los estudiantes mediante la aplicación de un cuestionario. Los resultados mostraron que las estrategias metacognitivas fueron poco estimuladas en las clases de educación física. Sin embargo, el profesor y los alumnos de la escuela 1 se desempeñaron mejor que los alumnos y el profesor de la escuela 2. Se concluye que la estimulación de estrategias metacognitivas ocurre poco e inconscientemente en el contexto que involucra la educación física escolar.O artigo retrata um estudo cujo fito foi verificar o modo pelo qual professores de Educação Física escolar fomentam estratégias metacognitivas durante as aulas. Participaram da pesquisa: docentes e estudantes do 4º, 5º e 6º ano do ensino fundamental, de duas escolas da rede pública localizadas em um município do sul de Minas Gerais. Tratou-se de uma investigação orientada por métodos mistos resultantes das abordagens qualitativas e quantitativas. Em termos de recurso para coleta de dados, empregou-se o processo observacional de seis aulas de Educação Física ao longo de um mês letivo, somado a aplicabilidade de um questionário o qual visou cotejar informações sobre as estratégias metacognitivas direcionadas aos aprendizes. Os resultados sinalizaram que as referidas estratégias foram pouco promovidas no interior desse componente curricular.
