Resumo: This work analyzes the evolution of religious freedom in Brazil, highlighting its meaning and legal framework. Historically, the country was dominated by Catholicism, where there was no religious freedom. The 1891 Constitution marked a significant change by establishing the secularity of the State and guaranteeing religious freedom. Subsequent constitutions maintained these guarantees, with some modifications. The 1988 Constitution strengthened religious freedom, including atheists and non-religious people. Today, religious freedom is considered a fundamental right in Brazil, playing a crucial role in the country's cultural diversity and democracy
