INTERNATIONALIZATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE CONTEXT OF UNDERGRADUATE LICENCIATE DEGREES IN THE AREA OF SCIENCE EDUCATION

Resumo: Among the policies aimed at Brazilian higher education in the last decade, internationalization has gained considerable space as an important path for institutional development. This article focuses on this theme, analyzing the process of internationalization in the context of undergraduate licenciate degrees, from the perspective of students. In this regard, a qualitative research was carried out with data production in two stages. In the first phase, document analysis was carried out in order to investigate the participation of undergraduated licentiate students in international mobility processes. In second stage, an interview was carried out with the application of the focus group technique, carried out in person with students of the Chemistry course licentiate degree at a public university. Three categories were established for the analysis of data relevant to the concept of internationalization, the international students’ experiences and language skills. The analysis of the data allowed us to conclude that there is still a lot of inequality in terms of international mobility between the Bachelor and Licentiate students. Licentiate courses have a limited participation in the internationalization movement, especially in current public policies, which highlights the need for institutional actions in the search for methods and strategies that enable the broad participation of teachers, technicians and students.

Este artigo se debruça sobre essa temática, analisando o processo da internacionalização no contexto das licenciaturas, a partir da perspectiva dos estudantes. Para tanto, foi realizada uma pesquisa qualitativa com produção de dados em duas etapas. Na primeira fase foi realizada a análise de documentos, a fim de investigar a participação de estudantes de licenciatura nos processos de mobilidade internacional. Na segunda etapa foi executada uma entrevista com aplicação da técnica de grupo focal, realizada presencialmente com estudantes do curso de Licenciatura da área de Química de uma universidade pública. Foram estabelecidas três categorias para análise dos dados pertinentes ao conceito de internacionalização, as experiências internacionais e habilidades linguísticas dos estudantes. A análise dos dados permitiu concluir que ainda existe muita desigualdade em termos de números de mobilidade internacional entre os estudantes dos cursos de Bacharelado e de Licenciatura.
