Resumo: In this work, we will try to give an account of the history of physics teaching in Brazil in the period 1549-1930. We objective with this to find evidence of the process of dissemination of scientific knowledge in the country. The research was carried out through consultations with scientific articles and theses that dealt with teaching in colonial, imperial and republican Brazil. The research reveals the little importance of physics and the natural sciences, since, in the investigated period, humanistic subjects were considered relevant for the formation of the citizen and defined as preparatory subjects for admission to higher education. On the other hand, we also verified that political, social and economic factors influenced the teaching of physics. Analyzing the history of physics teaching, through the chosen time frame, allowed us to understand the scientific knowledge linked to the relationships established between science and society at different times.

Pretendemos con ello encontrar evidencias del proceso de difusión del conocimiento científico en el país. La investigación se llevó a cabo a través de consultas con artículos científicos y tesis que trataron sobre la enseñanza en el Brasil colonial, imperial y republicano. La investigación revela la poca importancia de la física y de las ciencias naturales, una vez que, en el período investigado, las materias humanísticas eran consideradas relevantes para la formación del ciudadano y definidas como materias preparatorias para el ingreso a la enseñanza superior. Por otro lado, también comprobamos que factores políticos, sociales y económicos influyeron en la enseñanza de la física. Analizar la historia de la enseñanza de la física, a través del marco temporal elegido, permitió comprender el conocimiento científico vinculado a las relaciones establecidas entre ciencia y sociedad en las diferentes épocas.Neste trabalho, procuraremos fazer um relato da história do ensino de física no Brasil no período de 1549-1930. Objetivamos com isso encontrar evidências do processo de disseminação do conhecimento científico no país. A pesquisa foi realizada através de consultas a artigos científicos e teses que tratavam do ensino no Brasil colonial, imperial e republicano. A pesquisa revela a pouca importância da física e das ciências naturais, uma vez que, no período investigado, as disciplinas de caráter humanística eram consideradas relevantes para a formação do cidadão e definidas como disciplinas preparatórias para o ingresso no ensino superior. Por outro lado, também verificamos que fatores políticos, sociais e econômicos, influenciaram o ensino de física.
