Summary: This paper describes a qualitative research about reading with youths in the educational fields using focus groups methodology. The concept of focus groups was described and analysed  in the light of the social historical perspective of  language. Furthermore, this text discusses the challenges and the ethical concerns regarding this methodology.     Keywords: Focus groups – Language – Social and historical perspective – Youths
