ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGY IN COMPETITIVENESS: A THEORETICAL STUDY

Summary: The proposal of this paper is to put together concepts and ideas and promote discussion about organizational strategy from the competitiveness perspective, while attempting to demonstrate how organizational strategies increment competitiveness. It is verified that the enterprise environment was deeply affected by the recent transformations in the globalized world and in the new economy, specially regarding fastness in changes and growing rivalry for competitiveness. As a result, companies are adopting management methods that are better fit to this new environmental reality. Porter’s studies have offered a relevant contribution to understanding competitiveness. However, they are focused on external environment, viewing industry either as unity of analysis or object of study. Above all, the success in the competitive world is dependent upon fast answers and managerial capacity to coordinate tangible and intangible resources to fulfill organizational goals.

El presente trabajo propone reunir conceptos e ideas, y provocar cuestionamientos acerca de la estrategia organizacional, bajo la perspectiva de la competitividad, buscando demostrar como las estrategias organizacionales incrementan la competitividad. Se observa que las recientes transformaciones en el mundo globalizado y en la nueva economía causaron alteraciones profundas en la estructura del ambiente empresarial, principalmente en lo que se refiere al aumento de la velocidad de los cambios y al aumento de la competencia en la búsqueda por la competitividad. Así, las empresas pasan a adoptar métodos de gestión que sean más adecuados a esta nueva realidad ambiental. Los estudios de Porter dieron una contribución relevante al entendimiento de la competitividad, sin embargo, enfatizan el ambiente externo y consideran a la industria como unidad de análisis u objeto de estudio. El éxito en el mundo competitivo actual depende, principalmente, de respuestas rápidas y capacidad gerencial para coordinar recursos tangibles para llegar a objetivos organizacionales. O presente trabalho propõe reunir conceitos e idéias, e provocar questionamentos a respeito da estratégia organizacional, sob a perspectiva da competitividade, procurando demonstrar como as estratégias organizacionais incrementam a competitividade. Observa-se que as recentes transformações no mundo globalização e na nova economia causaram alterações profundas na estrutura do ambiente empresarial, principalmente no que se refere ao aumento da velocidade de mudanças e do aumento da concorrência na busca por competitividade. Assim, as empresas passam adotar métodos de gestão que sejam mais adequados a esta nova realidade ambiental. Os estudos de Porter deram uma contribuição relevante ao entendimento de competitividade, entretanto, eles enfatizam o ambiente externo e consideram a indústria como unidade de análise ou objeto de estudo. O sucesso no mundo competitivo atual depende, sobretudo, de respostas rápidas e capacidade gerencial para coordenar recursos tangíveis e intangíveis para atingir objetivos organizacionais.
