Stress among university teachers from the health care area

Resumo: The objectives of this research are knowing the perception of stress within the university teaching staff from the health care area, determining the stress factors with higher impact on this population, identifying the referred symptoms and evaluating the level of stress they go through. 68 teachers were interviewed from 1999 to 2001 who revealed that they perceive stress through tiredness, anxiety and loss of balance. Regarding stress factors with higher impact, they mentioned: inadequate wage, payment deduction, lack of material and long meetings. The most frequent stress signs and symptoms were cold fingertips and anxiety, among others. The stress level, in general, varied from mild (61%) to moderate (32%).

Fueron entrevistados 68 profesores en el periodo de 1999 hasta 2001, que revelaron percibir el estrés como cansancio, ansiedad, desequilibrio; se refirieron entre los factores de estrés de mayor impacto: sueldo inadecuado, descuento en el pago, falta de material, largas reuniones. Señales y síntomas más frecuentes del estrés fueron extremidades frías y ansiedad, entre otros. El nivel de estrés encontrado, en general, varió de leve (61%) a moderado (32%).Esta pesquisa objetiva conhecer a percepção de docentes universitários da área da saúde sobre o estresse; levantar estressores de maior impacto nesta população; identificar os sintomas referidos e avaliar o nível de estresse vivenciado por eles. Foram entrevistados 68 professores, de 1999 a 2001, que revelaram perceber o estresse como cansaço, ansiedade, desequilíbrio; referiram entre os estressores de maior impacto: salário inadequado, desconto no pagamento, falta de material, longas reuniões. Sinais e sintomas mais freqüentes de estresse foram extremidades frias e ansiedade, entre outros.
