Resumo: The objective of this study was determine the development of performance appraisal in daily nursing practice aiming to up – date and adequate the program of Nursing Management Post – graduation Courses. The sample was composed by 27 nurses students of the first and second post – graduation course in 1994 and 1995. The results showed that performance appraisal is not established in the nurses work reality (51%) and 70% of respondents assert that they did not receive any training in this field. The qualitative results added to quantitative data allow to point the necessity to invest in nursing education both in graduation and post – graduation levels, to carry out the performance appraisal like a process searching the development and improvement of human resources and working relations.

The qualitative results added to quantitative data allow to point the necessity to invest in nursing education both in graduation and post – graduation levels, to carry out the performance appraisal like a process searching the development and improvement of human resources and working relations.Como docentes del Curso de Especialización en Gerencia de Servicios de Enfermería de La Escuela de Enfermería de la UFRGS buscamos a través del presente estudio identificar como se está desenvolviendo la evaluación de desempeño (ED) en el cotidiano de enfermeros que frecuentaram el primero y el segundo curso, en el a^no de 1994/1995, componiendo una muestra de 27 enfermeros. El studio constató que la evaluación de desempeño es una actividad que todavia no está incorporada en la realidad del trabajo para la mayoria de los enfermeros investigados (51%), siendo que 70,3% de ellos afirman no haver recibido ningun tipo de entrenamiento cuánto al proceso de ED. Los hallargos qualitativos unidos a los dados quantitativos de la investigación nos permiten afirmar que existe una necessidad de investir en el preparo de los professionales enfermeros a nivel tanto de graduación como de Pos – Graduación para la realización de la ED como un proceso en vista al perfeccionamiento y desenvolvimiento de recursos humanos y consecuentemente la mejora en las relaciones de trabajo.Como docentes do curso de Especialização em Gerenciamento de Serviços de Enfermagem da Escola de Enfermagem da UFRGS buscamos através do presente estudo identificar como está sendo desenvolvida a avaliação de desempenho (AD) no cotidiano de enfermeiros a fim de atualizarmos e adequarmos nossas propostas de ensino à realidade encontrada. Participaram do estudo enfermeiros que freqüentaram o primeiro e o segundo curso de especialização em Gerenciamento de Serviços de Enfermagem, nos anos de 1994/95 compondo uma amostra de 27 enfermeiros. O estudo constatou que a avaliação de desempenho é uma atividade Que ainda não está incorporada à realidade de trabalho para a maioria dos enfermeiros investigados (51%), sendo que 70,3% deles afirmam não terem recebido nenhum tipo de treinamento quanto ao processo de AD.
