Resumo: The study investigated the use of the Pomeranian language in a third-year elementary school class in Canguçu (RS), a municipality where the Pomeranian language is co-official. The survey, carried out during the pandemic (2021-2022), included interviews with the teacher, who speaks the Pomeranian language, and a conversation with the students. Data categorization, through textual analysis, indicated negative impacts of historical language policies on the preservation of the Pomeranian language, impacting on the maintenance of the cultural identity of this group. It was inferred that, due to the silencing policy, later generations lost access to their mother tongue, factors that resulted in cultural and identity loss, however recent initiatives for the inclusion of bilingualism are being discussed, but are limited to certain locations, without national consolidation. The study underscores the importance of understanding such historical processes to value and preserve minority languages and linguistic diversity.

A pesquisa, realizada durante a pandemia (2021-2022), incluiu entrevistas com a professora, falante da língua pomerana, e uma conversa com os alunos. A categorização dos dados, por meio da análise textual, indicou impactos negativos das políticas linguísticas históricas na preservação da língua pomerana, impactando a manutenção da identidade cultural desse grupo. Inferiu-se que, devido à política de silenciamento, gerações posteriores perderam acesso à língua materna, fatores que resultaram em perda cultural e identitária.
