The objective of this article is to reflect on the inequality in the financing of basic education, based on the investigation of the resources of the Fund for Maintenance and Development of Basic Education and of Valorization of Education Professionals (Fundeb) and of the Total Annual Value per Student (VAAT) declared by the cities. This is a descriptive and analytical research with a quantitative approach, having the base of the study formed by the exploration of data from the Information System on Public Budgets in Education (Siope), comparing the value spent per student on basic education, in relation to the value of Fundeb. The comparative analysis made it possible to identify cities in the same state with a large difference in funding for education, concluding that the distribution of resources among the entities, especially by complementing the new Fundeb, can be better equalized, so that the education systems of more municipalities poor have better conditions for students to access and stay in school.
