Resumo: This articIe introducessome points that show the importance of routine as a central category in child education.In the beginning I try to point out the difference between the routine and thequotidian, where the quotidian is considered a daily life concept and routine is a toolthat organizes a Iife style. I demonstrate how concepts about childhood have beencreated during the modem times and, as a consequence, plans have been made concerninginfantile education. Finally I indicate the creation of creches, day care centers,kindergarten and educational practices carried on inside of them as responsible for theroutine in child education.

Procuro inicialmente marcar a diferença entre as rotinas e o cotidiano,onde cotidiano é demarcado como um conceito de vida diária, e a rotina como artefatoque organiza um estilo de vida. Demonstro como ao longo da modernidade foram sendocriadas concepções sobre a infância e, conseqüentemente, engendrados planos sobre aeducação das crianças.
