School Quality: impacts and challenges of external evaluation

Resumo: From the debate on quality in education this work aims at identifyingthe strengthening of initiatives external evaluations of educational policyas a guideline for improving the quality of education in schools. Drawing onnational survey try to show possible interfaces of evaluations with the qualityof education. Are highlighted some potential, and also some evidence ofpolitical tensions evaluation in school life. Finally, it is concluded that theexternal evaluation, conceived as a broad process that involves technicalchoices, political and ideological is an important tool to increase the qualityof education in public schools.

Apoiando-se na pesquisa nacional, procura-se mostrarpossíveis interfaces das avaliações com a qualidade da educação. Sãodestacadas algumas potencialidades e, também, alguns indícios de tensõesdas políticas de avaliação no cotidiano escolar.
