Locative noun phrases of class 17 ku in Kirundi (JD62): a corpus-based semantic study

Resumo: In Bantu languages, the locative nominal prefix of class 17 is generally used to express the place. The purpose of this study is to show that in Kirundi (JD62), a language spoken in Burundi, the locative noun phrases introduced by ku do not always express a real place and their semantic values are particularly extensive. For this paper, the analysis of the locative noun phrase’s semantic values based on Kirundi texts’ extracts from BantUgent corpus. Fifteen types of semantic values were identified from the sampled cases. In relation to the action expressed in a sentence, the ku locative noun phrase can express the theme, beneficiary, purpose, cause, manner, numeral, origin, patient, adjuvant, price, outcome, agent, reason, source and the point of view.

Le but de cet article est de montrer qu’en kirundi (JD62), langue parlée au Burundi, les syntagmes nominaux locatifs de la classe 17 ku n’expriment pas toujours un vrai lieu, et leurs valeurs sémantiques sont particulièrement étendues. Dans cet article, l’étude des diverses valeurs sémantiques de ces syntagmes nominaux locatifs est faite sur base d’un corpus de textes kirundi de BantUgent. Quinze types de valeurs sémantiques ont été identifiés dans l'échantillon considéré. Par rapport à l’action exprimée dans une phrase, le syntagme nominal locatif de la classe 17 peut exprimer le thème, le bénéficiaire, le but, la cause, la manière, le numéral, l’origine, le patient, l’adjuvant, le prix, l’aboutissement, l’agent, la raison, la source et le point de vue.Nas línguas bantu, o prefixo nominal locativo da classe 17 é geralmente usado para expressar lugar. O objetivo deste artigo é mostrar que em Kirundi (JD62), uma língua falada no Burundi, os advérbios locativos da classe 17 ku nem sempre expressam um lugar real, e seus valores semânticos são particularmente extensos. Neste artigo, o estudo dos diversos valores semânticos desses advérbios locativos é baseado em um corpus de textos kirundi da BantUgent. Quinze tipos de valores semânticos foram identificados na amostra em questão.
