he present study had as its theme the use of documentary languages as interface between user and library in the information retrieval process. This research aimed, in general, examine whether the BICEN the library interface / user is being held in the use of documentary languages in the recovery process the information efficiently; and specifically: check which documentary languages are used to that users can perform an efficient document retrieval; Identify how there is a library / user interface in the use of documentary languages; and evaluate the information retrieval process used by the Central Library of the Federal University of Sergipe (BICEN). Several literature surveys in order to develop all the theoretical background on the subject in question were performed. In methodological procedures, it presents the concept of method and emphasizes that the same it is a descriptive and exploratory research. The survey data was obtained through the application of two specific questionnaires for the research subjects, namely: users and librarians. After application of the survey instrument, it was performed the data tabulation and analysis itself. Finally, the use of documentary languages and the proper selection of terms that are used during indexing for more efficient information retrieval are impacting positively on meeting the information needs of users. It is noticed that the objectives were achieved, because it was possible, through data collection tool applied to users and librarians, to examine whether the BICEN, the interface library / user is being held in the use of documentary languages in the process recovery information efficiently.
