The teaching of science is fundamental for the understanding of the world and its transformations, enabling the students to position themselves based and critically, in a process of responsible citizenship. In order to make this become a reality in our schools, curricular guidelines must be translated to specific contexts, considering local realities. The recent proposal of a National Curricular Common Base (BNCC), constructed collaboratively, is an important initiative, aiming to unify the core curriculum of all Brazilian states. In this context, the objective of this work is to analyse de second version of the BNCC, with emphasis on the Biology contents. For this, an exploratory-descriptive research was developed from a qualitative perspective, involving documentary analysis. Positive and negative aspects of this document are discussed, and aspects related to its effective implementation are raised.
