Resumo: The objective of this study was to investigate and describe the relationship between beliefs and practices of academic reading of students of Executive Secretariat of UFS. The study starts from a theoretical survey about beliefs and reading practices, being a research of descriptive nature, since it describes the beliefs about academic reading and reading practices of students and has a qualitative approach. The data collection technique used was semi-structured interviews conducted with three students from the class of 2018 of the Executive Secretary course through Google Meets In the results, it was observed that the interviewees believed they were encouraged to read during graduation by their professors, but there were other factors that frustrated and demotivated the academics who could not understand the reading, such as excessive formality, jargon, difficult language, dense reading, as well as lack of time. It was also concluded that there is a relationship of influence between beliefs and academic reading practices, in which the latter is predominantly influenced by the former; however, there are cases in which the practice also influences the belief.

O estudo parte de um levantamento teórico sobre crenças e práticas de leitura, tratando-se de uma pesquisa de natureza descritiva, uma vez que descreve as crenças sobre leitura acadêmica e as práticas de leituras dos alunos e possui uma abordagem qualitativa. A técnica de coleta de dados utilizada foi entrevista semiestruturada realizada com três discentes da turma de 2018 do curso de Secretariado Executivo pelo Google Meet. Nos resultados, observou-se que os entrevistados acreditavam que foram incentivados a ler durante a graduação pelos professores, porém havia outros fatores os quais frustravam e desmotivavam os acadêmicos que não conseguiam compreender a leitura, como excesso de formalidade, jargões, linguagem rebuscada, leitura densa, bem como a falta de tempo.
