Resumo: | Objective. To evaluate the profile of infant mortality in Aracaju (Sergipe), from 2010 to 2015. Methods. A descriptive, retrospective study was conducted in the period of six years, and analyzed the following variables: age at death, cause of death, in addition to maternal characteristics, childbirth, live births and intra-urban inequalities. The data were analyzed from the TabWin program and described in number, percentage and rates. Results. There were 57,114 live births and 912 deaths in the municipality, and the infant mortality rate decreased from 17.9 to 15.9 / 1000 live births between 2010 and 2015. The infant mortality rate ranged from 5.5 to 26.5 / 1000 live births within the districts. The worst rates were presented by the districts América, Lamarão and Pottery. The Santa Maria district had the highest number of deaths (14%) in 2015. For the newborns, males, weight less than 2500 grams, and early neonatal death had the highest rates. Regarding maternal characteristics, the highest rates were found in mothers with 10 to 19 years of age and without schooling. Concerning the causes, the most notable were deaths due to congenital malformation, followed by maternal factors and prematurity. Conclusions. Despite the progress in reducing the infant mortality rate in the municipality, not all districts have followed this evolution, masking their inequalities. Special attention is needed for the districts with the highest infant mortality rates. |
