Resumo: Textbooks are fundamental tools in the teaching-learning process in basic education, and are therefore important in the construction of meanings by schoolchildren. Particularly in science education it is important that the content covered in these books hold discussions with the local reality. Therefore, this study investigated how the textbooks adopted by most schools of the state educational system of Sergipe located in the semiarid region of the state, depict the Caatinga biome in which they are situated. It was observed that the textbooks analyzed had erroneous and outdated information, which clashed with the current scientific research, emphasizing the need to update these textbooks in order to subsidize a more suitable and context related educational approach.

Particularmente no ensino de ciências é importante que os conteúdos abordados nesses livros dialoguem com a realidade local, pois trata-se do meio em que vivem e interagem. Por este motivo, este trabalho investigou como os livros didáticos mais adotados por escolas públicas da rede estadual de Sergipe, localizadas na região semiárida do estado, retratam o bioma Caatinga, no qual estão inseridas.
