Resumo: Genetics is an area of biology that is usually presented in the 3rd year of High School as suggested by the PCN+. Because it requires interdisciplinarity among basic areas like Portuguese language, Mathematics, Biochemistry and Cellular biology, many students and teachers treat Genetics as a difficult subject. However, although there are many studies that aim to study the understanding of terms used in Genetics, there is still scarce researches that evaluates the prior knowledge considered basic for the students to have in those areas important for the learning of Genetics. From this, the objective of this study was to evaluate the learning of the previous knowledge for the Genetics content of the students of the 3rd year of High School from two schools of the metropolitan area of Aracaju, state of Sergipe, Northeastern Brazil, to verify the relation between the knowledge taught before and the subjects of the area of Genetics. The research was developed in two public schools applying a questionnaire about the above-mentioned areas in the first class, before the teacher has taught Genetics. At the end of the bimonthly evaluation, the evaluation grades of each student were collected in order to compare the previous knowledge and the contents of Genetics. It was possible to realize that most of the participants had difficulties in previous knowledge. And, although the exam grades were higher than the questionnaire, there was a pattern, higher grades in the questionnaire were also the highest in the test. Demonstrating that the difficulties of these areas may contribute to the understanding of Genetics contents. Therefore, this study has provided, through its results, a diagnostic material to subsidize the classes of biology teachers of the 3rd year of High School.

Por exigir interdisciplinaridade entre áreas básicas como Língua portuguesa, Matemática, Bioquímica e Biologia celular é tratada por muitos discentes e docentes como um assunto difícil. Entretanto, apesar de haver muitos trabalhos que se direcionam a estudar a compreensão de termos usados em Genética ainda são escassas as pesquisas que avaliam os conhecimentos prévios considerados básicos para os(as) discentes terem sobre essas áreas importantes para a aprendizagem de Genética. A partir disso, o objetivo dessa pesquisa foi avaliar a aprendizagem dos conhecimentos prévios para os conteúdos de Genética dos(as) alunos(as) do 3° ano do Ensino Médio de dois colégios da região metropolitana de Aracaju, estado de Sergipe, Nordeste do Brasil, para verificar a relação entre o conhecimento ensinado a priori e dos conteúdos da área de Genética. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida em colégios públicos aplicando um questionário com perguntas sobre as áreas supracitadas na primeira aula, antes do docente ensinar Genética. E depois que este desenvolveu o conteúdo em sala de aula, ao final da avaliação bimestral foram coletadas as notas da avaliação da unidade escolar de cada discente para comparar as notas da prova com o questionário. Foi possível perceber que a maioria dos(as) participantes apresentaram dificuldades nos conhecimentos prévios. E, apesar das notas da prova terem sido maiores que do questionário houve um padrão, maiores notas no questionário também foram as maiores na prova, demonstrando que as dificuldades dessas áreas podem contribuir na compreensão dos conteúdos de Genética.
