Fatores de motivação para o Estudante na Modalidade EaD em contexto anterior a pandemia da Covid-19

Distance Education (DE) is a teaching-learning mode regulated by Ministry of Education DecreeLaw 2,494 of February 10, 1998. This study focus on a context prior to the Covid-19 pandemic and aims at analyzing the main motivational factors underlying the students’ choice of taking a DE university course, given the 226 per cent increase in higher education enrollment in such a modality from 2007 to 2017, as per a survey by the Ministry of Education. This study takes the perspective of motivation for learning whereas also tackling DE student dropout and highlighting the importance of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and their advances. This descriptive literature review also analyzes the advances of the Guidelines and Bases of National Education (Law 9,394 of December 20, 1996). Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the main motivating factors in the choice for a DE university course were found to be reconciling work and study, the difficulty in accessing university venues, and the easy access to ICT among the young population.
