Perfil epidemiológico das vítimas de acidentes motociclísticos atendidas no Hospital Universitário de Lagarto

Motorcycle accidents reach alarming and increasing statistics, constituting a serious public health problem nowadays. The objective of this study is to outline the epidemiological profile of motorcycle accident victims served from January 2016 to June 2017 at the University Hospital of Lagarto, a Brazilian municipality in the State of Sergipe, in the Northeast region. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive, quantitative approach, carried out through the analysis of medical records, in which the profiles of motorcyclists were verified. Also, of the 420 records of verified victims, 80.5% men and 19.5% women, predominantly in the age group between 19 and 27 years. Accordingly, the months of greatest incidence in the year 2016 were January, February, May, June and July; as early as 2017, May was prevalent. With regard to the prevailing days were Sunday and Monday. The time and time of hospitalization occurred, respectively, between 12h and 17h59 and most of the victims did not exceed three days of stay. Regarding origin, the individuals were mostly from the city of Lizard / SE. That said, the type of trauma occurred mainly in the lower limbs. The study is relevant in that it intends to know in detail the causes and variables associated with these accidents, which can be treated with relevant guidelines to the victims and the community, as well as subsidize public policies to minimize the occurrences and the nefarious sequels .
