Contributions of the study of users to the construction of archival products and services: a case study

Resumo: The article is a report of research that aims to investigate how the study of users can contribute to the construction of archival products and services. This is an exploratory and descriptive case study, carried out at the General Archive of Paraíba Previdência (PBPREV). It is characterized as field research, of a quantitative and qualitative nature and applied nature. To collect the data, semi-structured interviews and a questionnaire were used. For the analysis, the content analysis technique was used. The research made it possible to outline the profile of the users, the information needs, and their satisfaction with the products and archival services and found that the internal users of the General Archive of PBPREV did not clearly define archival products and services, so they were unable to identify and suggest examples of them. The results made it possible to list some archival products and services to be applied in the environment of this research and the other archives, to improve the management in these information units. It is considered extremely important to make archives managers aware of the need to conduct a user study as a fundamental information source to create archival products and services.

Se trata de un estudio de caso de carácter exploratorio y descriptivo, realizado en el Archivo General de Paraíba Previdencia (Arquivo Geral da Paraíba Previdência - PBPREV). Se caracteriza por ser una investigación de campo, de carácter cuanti-cualitativo y de naturaleza aplicada. Para recoger los datos se utilizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas y un cuestionario. Para el análisis, se utilizó la técnica de análisis de contenido. La investigación permitió caracterizar el perfil de los usuarios, las necesidades de información y su satisfacción con los productos y servicios archivísticos y, además, constató que los usuarios internos del Archivo General del PBPREV no definen claramente los productos y servicios archivísticos, por lo que no pudieron identificar y recomendar ejemplos de los mismos. Los resultados permitieron enumerar algunos productos y servicios archivísticos para aplicar en el entorno de esta investigación y en otros archivos, con el fin de mejorar la gestión en estas unidades de información. Se considera de suma importancia concienciar a los gestores de Archivos sobre la realización de estudios de usuarios como fuente de información fundamental para crear productos y servicios archivísticos.O artigo é o relato de uma pesquisa que tem o objetivo de investigar como o estudo de usuários(as) pode contribuir para a construção de produtos e serviços arquivísticos. Trata-se de um estudo de caso de cunho exploratório e descritivo, realizado no Arquivo Geral da Paraíba Previdência (PBPREV). Caracteriza-se como pesquisa de campo, de cunho quanti-qualitativo e de natureza aplicada. Para coletar os dados, foram utilizados entrevista semiestruturada e questionário. Para a análise, recorreu-se à técnica de análise de conteúdo. A pesquisa possibilitou delinear o perfil dos(as) usuários(as), as necessidades de informação e sua satisfação com os produtos e os serviços arquivísticos e constatou que os(as) usuários(as) internos(as) do Arquivo Geral da PBPREV não definem com clareza os produtos e serviços arquivísticos, portanto não souberam identificar e sugerir exemplos deles. Os resultados possibilitaram elencar alguns produtos e serviços arquivísticos para serem aplicados no ambiente desta pesquisa e nos demais arquivos, a fim de melhorar a gestão nessas unidades informacionais.
