Biophilia: the scientific divulgation text and the enunciative strategies of translation

Resumo: This work analyses the translation strategies on an unpublished translation experience of a chapter from the book Biophilia (1984). As a starting point, we questioned the notion of language and linguistic level in the theories of linguistic translation strategies, Vinay & Dalbernet (1969) and Chesterman (2016), aiming to look at translation through Benveniste’s (1989,1995) theory of enunciation. The theoretical background also covered the works about enunciation of Lichtenberg (2006), Nunes (2012), Melo (2012) and Hainzenreder (2016). The method was built on the interpretation of the source text and target text in the global plane, the enunciative act and situation, and in the analytical plane, the specific indexes and accessory proceedings. The results present the translator as a language analyst, revealing ascribed choices of interpretation, creativity and intersubjectivity, like the syntactic agency and addressee targeting.

Partimos del cuestionamiento de la noción de lengua y de nivel lingüístico en dos teóricos de las estrategias lingüísticas de traducción, Vinay y Dalbernet (1969) y Chesterman (1997), con el objetivo de analizar la traducción a través de la teoría de la enunciación de Benveniste (1989, 2005). El marco teórico también abarca el trabajo sobre enunciación de Lichtenberg (2006), Nunes (2012), Melo (2012) y Hainzenreder (2016). El método consiste en la interpretación del texto origen y del texto meta a nivel global, acto y situación enunciativa, y a nivel analítico, índices específicos y procedimientos auxiliares. Los resultados muestran al traductor como un analista del lenguaje, revelando opciones dotadas de interpretación, creatividad e intersubjetividad, tales como el engendramiento sintáctico y la orientación alocutiva.Este trabalho analisa as estratégias de tradução em uma experiência de tradução inédita de um capítulo do livro Biophilia (1984). Partimos do questionamento da noção de língua e nível linguístico em dois teóricos das estratégias linguísticas de tradução, Vinay e Dalbernet (1969) e Chesterman (2016), com objetivo de olhar a tradução pela teoria da enunciação de Benveniste (1989, 1995). O referencial teórico também envolve os trabalhos sobre enunciação de Lichtenberg (2006), Nunes (2012), Melo (2012) e Hainzenreder (2016).  O método consiste na interpretação do texto fonte e texto alvo no plano global, ato e situação enunciativa, e no plano analítico, índices específicos e procedimentos acessórios.
