Dialects and standard language: the language education of the italians living in Italy, and contexts of immigration (1861-2015)

Resumo: This paper aims to present the relationship existent between the standard Italian language, and the dialects used both in the language education of Italians living in Italy, and of Italians living in Brazil, to where they emigrated in search of better opportunities from the middle of the century XIX. This relationship is analyzed under the prism of different political and educational measures sanctioned by both countries, which somehow represent a subjective position on the language concept. Initially, the analysis was focused on how unstable such a relationship has been in Italy, varying from phases of great antagonism to phases of cooperation, since the dialects were used as a complementary tool in the teaching/learning process of the standard Italian language. Secondly, the analysis was focused on how this same relationship happened in the immigration context, particularly with regards to Brazil, where the Italian language and its dialects were mixed with Portuguese. Our conclusion offers an overview on the current stage, and the perspectives for the teaching of the Italian language both in Italy and in Brazil.

Se analiza esa relación a partir de la recopilación de medidas políticas y educacionales sancionadas por los dos países que presentan, de determinada forma, un posicionamiento y una concepción de lengua. En la primera parte, se analiza cómo esa relación ocurre en Italia, una relación inestable, que pasó por fases de fuerte antagonismo y otras de alianza, ya que se usaban los dialectos para auxiliar la enseñanza y el aprendizaje del italiano estándar. En la segunda parte del trabajo, se analiza cómo esa misma relación se dio en contexto de inmigración, con especial atención al caso de Brasil, donde la lengua italiana estándar y dialectos se encontraron con el portugués. La conclusión presenta un balance sobre la actual situación y las perspectivas para la enseñanza del italiano, tanto en Italia como en Brasil.Este artigo visa a apresentar a relação entre a língua italiana padrão e os dialetos da Itália na educação linguística dos italianos na Itália e no Brasil, um dos países para onde emigraram em busca de melhores oportunidades a partir da metade do séc. XIX. Essa relação é verificada a partir do levantamento das principais medidas políticas e educacionais sancionadas pelos dois países que apresentam, de certa maneira, um posicionamento e uma concepção de língua. Na primeira parte, analisa-se como essa relação aconteceu na Itália, uma relação instável, que passou por fases de forte antagonismo e outras, de aliança, uma vez que os dialetos eram usados para auxiliar no ensino/aprendizagem do italiano padrão. Na segunda parte, analisa-se como essa mesma relação se deu em contexto de imigração, com particular atenção ao Brasil, onde língua italiana padrão e dialetos se depararam com o português.
