This interview was conducted by Moema Helena de Albuquerque with Professor Dr. João Josué da Silva, currently retired at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. Published several articles in specialized journals and works in annals of scientific events of thefounding researchers of the Center for Studies and Research on Early Childhood Education - NUPEIN (1991) of which he was coordinator for many years (between 1991 and 2014, except when away for training or to exercise other administrative positions), He is the author of books and book chapters, as well as being the editor responsible for the electronic magazine "Zero-a-Seis" (www.periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/zeroseis) until the year of 2015 when he retired. The interview script was based on the approach of three principles: teaching, research and extension that underlies the NUPEIN project, with emphasis on the development of research and its challenges in the national context.
