Gender and citizenship in pre-school education: Situations lived in times of pandemic in the Portuguese context

Resumo: In Portugal, pre-school education is aimed at children from 3 to 6 years old, age of the beginning of compulsory education and the current curricular guidelines were defined in 2016. In the research work that I have been developing the concern with how pre-school education practitioners deal with gender, in a perspective of education for citizenship, has been a priority. In 2020 in the face of the needs arising from the pandemic (COVID19), the Association of Childhood Education Professionals (APEI), collecting various contributions, organized a support text in line with what is defined in the curriculum guidelines. Starting from the analysis of these documents, contextualized in the Portuguese reality, it will be analyzed how gender issues are addressed on in pre-school education; how this very difficult period is being experienced by boys and girls, listening to their voices and the views of educators / researchers involved in teacher’s training that have accompanied the process of building and disseminating the current curricular guidelines.

No trabalho de pesquisa que tenho vindo a desenvolver a preocupação com a forma como na educação pré-escolar é dado realce ao trabalho sobre as questões de género, numa perspetiva de educação para a cidadania, tem sido uma prioridade. Em 2020 perante as necessidades decorrentes da pandemia (COVID19) a Associação dos Profissionais de Educação de Infância (APEI), recolhendo vários contributos, organizou um texto de apoio que se enquadra no que está definido nas orientações curriculares.
