Resumo: The presence of male teachers in early childhood education shows the existence of notions linked to a culture on machismo and patriarchy in which power relations explode as marks of /on the body. In this essay, we analyze the hierarchies of power and gender in early childhood education. It is a dialogue built from the materiality of two studies that addressed male teaching in early childhood education. One of them, inspired by the approach of life stories, analyzed quantitative data and semi-structured interviews with teachers from a Brazilian public network. The other, with ethnographic inspiration, was carried out in a Brazilian and Italian public network and analyzed notebooks, interviews and photography. From the framework of gender and feminist studies, we problematize the view of female teaching associated with something of lesser value and the constitution of gender inequalities in early childhood education, as well as outlining possible contributions of the male presence in this context.
