“It’s a life of sacrifice... I do it for my children”: children and migratory trajectories in Cape Verde

The article addresses the centrality of children in migratory projects and in the life trajectories of women-mothers in the archipelago of Cape Verde, Africa. First, I will approach the perspective of these women and their life trajectories linked to migratory projects in progress or under construction. Through the categories "overcoming" and "sacrifice", I intend to demonstrate the centrality of children in their mobility strategies and tactics, with children being both engines that leverage such projects and locks that interrupt or hinder them. Next, I introduce the perspective of children and youths, their speeches, feelings and actions in such mobility projects. I seek to understand what it is like to grow up in a context in which mobility is a fact that permeates images of a future that can always be lived in a different, imagined and distant place. The article aims to address both the centrality of children in the successes and failures of family migratory projects, as well as indicating how mobility is central to the lives and projects of children and young people when they think about the present and imagine a future.
