The man-teacher in Early Childhood Education and the production of professionalism

Resumo: In this article, from the proposal of a law that limits the performance of men in Early Childhood Education in the State of São Paulo, we problematize the figure of the male teacher in this stage of education. Supported by Gender Studies, with a post-structuralist dimension, we must consider that our educational institutions are biased by gender scripts that dimension our view and guide the conduct of the subjects. This text was produced through the findings of two surveys that were produced at different times (BELLO, 2006; ZANETTE, 2018), however, both were focused on the first stage of basic education. It emerged from the findings that the strangeness of the presence of the male teacher in Early Childhood Education is ratified by the moral panic that has been produced historically. This panic translates the male subject as having an uncontrollable sexuality, consequently, dangerous to the students. However, it is clear that these obstacles can be seen as elements that contribute to the constitution of a male professionalism that works in different school environment.

Sustentados nos Estudos de Gênero, de vertente pós-estruturalista, nos cabe considerar que nossas instituições educativas são atravessadas por scripts de gênero que dimensionam nosso olhar e conduzem a conduta dos sujeitos. Este texto foi produzido através do diálogo entre duas pesquisas produzidas em momentos distintos (BELLO, 2006; ZANETTE, 2018), mas que tinham como corpus a primeira etapa da Educação básica. As metodologias utilizadas foram a observação participante em uma turma da Educação Infantil e grupos focais com docentes, respectivamente. Depreendeu-se deste diálogo que o estranhamento da presença do homem-professor na Educação Infantil é ratificado pelo pânico moral que vêm se produzindo ao longo do tempo. Pânico este que traduz o sujeito masculino como portador de uma sexualidade incontrolável, consequentemente, perigosa.
