Resumo: This article presents the partial results of a broader research that aimed to investigate the understandings of pedagogical practice in early childhood education (ECE) from video recording. This research uses the Sophos method, which combines the presentation of daily ECE films from contrasting contexts and their discussion in focus groups (FG), formed by people linked to the research field. The study is inspired by Jensen's research and involved the editing of two daily films of early childhood education, in Brazil and Denmark, and their exhibition to several FG. For this article, the comprehension of the presence of male professionals, based on the discussions that took place in seven FG held in the state of Alagoas, was analyzed in the light of gender theories. The results indicate that the male presence in IS still provokes reactions of strangeness, revealing the power of the method when confronting different experiences, familiar (Brazilian) and foreign (Danish).
