The "Interpertation" of Expressive Intonation for Tactile Sign Language at Conferences - Libras Abridged Version

Resumo: The guide-interpreter for deaf-blind people corresponds to a specialization of work of Sign Language Translator and Interpreter (Portuguese abbreviation: TILS). The aim of this study is to provide fundamental considerations about the guide-interpretation within the context of conferences for the Brazilian Tactile Sign Language (Libras Tátil). These considerations regard more specifically to adaptations and specific lexicon for interpretation of expressive intonation of the utterances, considering effects of language modality and conditionsof production and reception. For this purpose, three conferences guide-interpretation video records and a teamwork field diary of other conferences were analyzed. We observed the use of different lexical units assuming the function of expressive intonation for affirmative and negative sentences, replacing morphemes produced by non-manualelements (facial and body expressions) or by movement. We consider thatin the interpretation activity for Libras Tátil, a simple lexical item canassume different grammatical functions. It seems spare or redundant, but it becomes an element of expressive intonation. For this reason, acting in conferences requires specific linguistic competence from the professional guide-interpreter, in addition to description and translation skills.

Entre suas tarefas está a de descrever tudo que cerca a pessoa surdocega e de atuar na sua orientação e mobilidade, além de transmitir as enunciações e de mediar a comunicação. O objetivo deste estudo é apresentar considerações fundamentais sobre a guia-interpretação para a língua de sinais tátil em contexto de conferências, mais especificamente no que se refere às adaptações e ao léxico específico para indicação da entonação expressiva durante a interpretação, considerando a modalidade língua de sinais tátil e suas condições de produção e recepção nesse contexto. Sugerimos no estudo que na atividade de interpretação para a Libras tátil, um item lexical simples pode vir a assumir diferentes funções gramaticais e consequentemente a produzir outros diferentes sentidos, item aparentemente sobressalente ou redundante, se apresenta como termo que se desloca das significações comuns no seu emprego como elemento de entonação expressiva.
