Resumo: This article analyzes the impact of video streaming on Brazilian video cultures. It considers that the dominance of TV Globo and telenovelas in Brazilian television, coupled with the limited penetration of pay TV, has generated dissatisfaction, and fueled the disruptive potential of streaming. With the popularization of video streaming services, there is evidence of the multiplication of video cultures and increased access to transnational audiovisual content, revealing limitations of the cultural proximity paradigm. It is argued that video streaming has emerged as a competitive force that led Grupo Globo to diversify its products; however, while its hegemony has been affected, the conglomerate has demonstrated the ability to adapt to the digital age.
