Resumo: Apprehend the perception of the nursing staff about the use of therapeutic play in a pediatric unit from the perspective of social phenomenology. A qualitative study conducted in a pediatric unit of public teaching hospital, Paraná, from June to September 2014. We used the theoretical framework and analysis of social phenomenology, which allows the understanding of the phenomenon through the actions of the subject and their daily lives. Participated in 25 nursing team members divided into four social groups: nurses, residents nurses, physicians teaching nurses and technicians/nursing assistants. Three categories are emerged: Therapeutic Play: concepts built and experienced; Therapeutic Play: Make and react team for child care; Implementation of the Therapeutic Play: interests, desires and ideologies. The groups show that the systematic implementation of the therapeutic toy is surrounded by barriers between concept and experience that need to be overcome, it does not justify the deprivation of the child.
