Resumo: Language is part of living in society, manifesting the result of interactivity between speakers and cultural, historical, and geographical aspects. Therefore, the present variational analysis was based on the speaking communities of Paraíba and Rio Grande do Sul, geographically distant regions and apparently distinct historical-social contexts, demonstrating, through the verification of the intra and /or extra linguistic factors that motivated the processes of variation in both, the approximation or the lexicon - dialectal distance between these states. Thus, this work investigated some cases of variation of the words swig, silly and blond, which are part of the standard brasilian portuguese language, with the purpose of demonstrating, through variational analysis, similarities and/or differences between the Portuguese spoken in Rio Grande do Sul and Paraíba. To perform this study, the Ethnographic Linguistic Atlas of the Southern Region of Brazil - ALERS (2011) was used as methodological basis. Besides that, this work also presents qualitative support, since it had as direct source of data (corpus) texts belonging to the journalistic domain and dictionaries. Concerning to the contribution of the present research to the academic environment, this work is justified by the fact that it considers relevant to understand that portuguese is constantly changing, so. the processes of linguistic variation are common. So, in this first stage of the analysis, it was possible to perceive that, along the investigations of the conjectures raised about the motivation and the criation of non-standard variants in Paraíba and Rio Grande do Sul, both states present some similarities among themselves, either in view of the historical context and the form in which the occurrences of variation occurred in each of them. However, linguistic observation of different geographical locations can demonstrate how each of these speaking communities relates to its inhabitants and to its language, revealing, thereby, cultural diversity and issues of influence in the characterization of local speech. Therefore, this analysis is not yet complete, because there are other variations that could not be analyzed in this first moment, which are relevant for the present study. In view of this, the enormous range of linguistic variety – such as phonetic, semantic or lexical variation - present in brazilian portuguese language, reflects the different elements that contributed for each place to presented unique characteristics that differentiated it from others, whether in the use of the language or by the own way of living of their societies. That said, the study of the systematic heterogeneity of language, as proposed by Variationist Sociolinguistics, besides allowing the understanding of linguistic variation, helps in the awareness and acceptance of social diversity. Considering that, Brazil is the mixture of different cultures and languages of people who were part, and still are, of the formation of their own people we can not attribute to the use of standard portuguese the status of the only correct language.

Considering that, Brazil is the mixture of different cultures and languages of people who were part, and still are, of the formation of their own people we can not attribute to the use of standard portuguese the status of the only correct language.A língua é parte da vivência em sociedade, manifestando o resultado da interatividade entre os falantes e aspectos culturais, históricos, geográficos, etc. Por isso a presente análise variacional teve como base as comunidades de fala da Paraíba e do Rio Grande do Sul, regiões distantes geograficamente e de contextos histórico-sociais aparentemente distintos, demonstrando por meio da verificação dos fatores intra e/ou extra linguísticos que motivaram os processos de variação em ambos a aproximação ou o distanciamento léxico - dialetal entre esses estados. Assim, este trabalho investigou alguns casos de variação das palavras bobo, golada e loura, as quais fazem parte da norma padrão da língua portuguesa brasileira, com o intuito de demonstrar, por meio da análise variacional, as semelhanças e/ou diferenças existentes entre o português falado no Rio Grande do Sul e na Paraíba. Para realizar este estudo, foi utilizado como base metodológica o Atlas Linguístico Etnográfico da Região Sul do Brasil – ALERS (2011). Além dele, o trabalho também apresenta suporte qualitativo, pois teve como fonte direta de dados (corpus) textos pertencentes ao domínio jornalístico e dicionarístico. No que diz respeito à contribuição da presente pesquisa para o ambiente acadêmico, este trabalho se justifica pelo fato de considerar relevante para compreender que o português está em constante mudança, de maneira que os processos de variação linguística são comuns. Assim, nesta primeira etapa da análise, foi possível perceber que, ao longo das averiguações das conjecturas levantadas acerca da motivação e do surgimento das variantes não padrão na Paraíba e no Rio Grande do Sul, ambos os estados apresentam algumas semelhanças entre si, seja em vista do contexto histórico ou da forma em que se procederam as ocorrências de variação em cada um deles. Contudo, a observação linguística de diferentes localidades geográficas pode demonstrar a forma com que cada uma dessas comunidades de fala se relaciona com seus habitantes e com a língua, revelando com isso a diversidade cultural e questões de influência na caracterização da forma de falar local. Por isso, esta análise ainda não se dá como concluída, pois existem fatores que não puderam ser analisados neste primeiro momento e que são relevantes para o presente estudo. À vista disso, a enorme gama de variedade linguística - seja ela fonética, semântica ou lexical - presente no português brasileiro reflete os diferentes elementos que contribuíram para que cada lugar apresentasse características únicas que o diferenciava dos demais, seja no uso da língua ou pelo próprio modo de viver de sua sociedade. Dito isso, o estudo da heterogeneidade sistemática da língua, tal como propõe a Sociolinguística Variacionista, além de possibilitar o entendimento da variação linguística, auxilia na conscientização e aceitação da diversidade social. Tendo em vista que o Brasil é uma mistura das diversas culturas e línguas dos vários povos que fizeram e fazem parte da formação de seu próprio povo não se pode atribuir à utilização apenas do português padrão, considerado culto, o status de única língua correta.porUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Artes e LetrasPrograma de Pós-Graduação em LetrasUFSMBrasilLetrasAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessVariação lexicalSociolinguísticaParaíbaRio Grande do SulLexical variationSociolinguisticsCNPQ::LINGUISTICA, LETRAS E ARTES::LETRASVariação lexical na Paraíba (PB) e no Rio Grande do Sul (RS): bobo, golada e loura.Lexical variation in Paraíba (PB) and Rio Grande do Sul (RS): swig, silly and blond.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisCosta, Evellyne Patricia Figueiredo de Sousahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/3603215516050476Simioni, TaíseSilveira, Verli Fátima Petri daFerreira, Barbara Lilian Nascimento8002000000016006b0e5068-8c0c-49c8-aadc-cb2822771525c743be4a-9c44-4671-94a5-8f594fa435d2ebe475e9-a6d6-4052-a316-6f17603800e76ce030ac-a098-4c35-a4e9-a7dfbbc2196creponame:Repositório Institucional Manancial UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
