Social representations of the undergraduate deaf students of the Letras-Libras course

Resumo: | A research was conducted which main purpose was to analyze the social representations of the deaf students and professionals of the Letras -Libras course - Distance Learning at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) about the deaf student. The paper here presented emphasizes data collected on the questionnaire applied to deaf students enrolled on this course. Results show what kind of social representations deaf people have about themselves and about their educational situation. Results also show the importance of a bilingual education for the Deaf and stresses how this kind of course is suitable to empowerment and make themfeel more equal and capable. Therefore, bilingual education can promote changings in the representations they have about themselves and about their learning. |

Therefore, bilingual education can promote changings in the representations they have about themselves and about their learning. http://dx.doi.org/10.5902/1984686X5451 Foi realizada uma pesquisa cujo objetivo principal era analisar as representações sociais dos alunos Surdos e profissionais do curso de graduação em Letras- Libras-Educação a Distância – Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) sobre o aluno surdo. Neste artigo destacamos um dos instrumentos utilizados: o questionário aplicado aos alunos surdos do curso. Trazemos para reflexão os resultados sobre as representações sociais que os Surdos têm sobre si mesmos e as representações sociais dos Surdos sobre sua situação educacional. Os resultados mostram ainda a importância da educação bilíngue para o Surdo e que esse modelo de curso os fazem sentir valorizados, capazes e iguais. Assim, a educação bilíngue é capaz de promover mudanças nas representações que os surdos têm sobre si mesmos e sobre sua própria aprendizagem. Palavras-chave: Surdos. Ensino superior. Bilinguismo.
