Resumo: Our purpose with this study is to analyze the intersemiotic relationship of multimodal text in a reading section of a Portuguese Language textbook to the 7th grade. This analysis was carried out through the categories that constitute the ideational (HALLIDAY, MATTHIESSEN, 2004) and representational (KRESS; van LEEUWEN, 2006) metafunction and through the study of status categories (MARTINEC; SALWAY, 2005). We perceive that a text can be permeated with verbal and visual elements, and each modality interferes in the other in the sense of maintaining/reinforcing or generating certain meanings. We need to understand that both modalities are inherent elements one for the other.
