Discourse genres in teaching Portuguese as an additional language: thoughts on the academic discursive sphere

Resumo: This paper focuses on the teaching of Portuguese as an Additional Language (PAL) to students in academic exchange in Brazil. Possible contributions are identified in the studies of discourse genres that can make the teaching-learning process of the Portuguese language more meaningful, offering students the necessary tools to fully insert themselves into the academic community in which they participate. Through a literature review, the concepts of academic literacy (STREET, 2014; 2010; FISHER, 2008), genre competence (BAKHTIN, 2016; MAINGUENEAU, 2013), discursive sphere (BAKHTIN, 2016; MARCUSCHI, 2006; BIBER, 2006), and discourse genre (BAKHTIN, 2016; SANTOS; BAUMVOL, 2012; MARCUSCHI, 2008; BIBER, 2006) are used to offer the theoretical support and invite teachers of PAL to reflect on possible applications of these concepts to their pedagogical practice, in order to promote the full participation of the foreign students in the reception and production of texts belonging to the genres of the academic discursive sphere.

Vê-se, nos estudos dos gêneros do discurso, possíveis contribuições para tornar o processo de ensino-aprendizagem de língua portuguesa mais significativo, munindo os alunos das ferramentas necessárias para inserirem-se plenamente na comunidade acadêmica de que participam.
