Public policies for affirmative actions: challenges faced by Indigenous students during undergraduate degree at Federal University of Pará

Resumo: The Indigenous peoples' struggles gained prominence in their actions together with other social movements during the Military Dictatorship period (1964-1985). Among the claimed agendas, access to higher education is one of the main ones. At the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), this measure was implemented in 2010 with the Special Selective Process (PSE). In this article, we intend to identify the challenges faced at UFPA by indigenous students during undergraduate degree. To carry out this research, five students were interviewed. Thus, it was observed the discrimination experienced in classroom spaces (both by students and professors), the lack of preparation of university employees, and the bureaucracy of open announcement for student assistance are problems faced during undergraduate degree.

Entre estas pautas históricas, el acceso a la educación superior es una de las principales. En la Universidad Federal de Pará (UFPA), la medida se implementó en 2010 con el Proceso de Selección Especial (PSE). Este artículo pretende identificar los desafíos que enfrentan los estudiantes indígenas en la UFPA durante su graduación. Para la realización de esta investigación se entrevistó a cinco estudiantes de pregrado. Así, se observó que la discriminación vivida en los espacios de las aulas (tanto por estudiantes como por profesores), la falta de preparación de los empleados universitarios y la burocracia de los avisos públicos para la asistencia de los estudiantes son problemas que se enfrentan durante la graduación.A luta dos povos indígenas ganhou destaque em atuações conjuntas com outros movimentos sociais no período da Ditadura Militar (1964-1985). Dentre as pautas reivindicadas, o acesso às universidades é uma das principais. Na Universidade Federal do Pará (UFPA), essa medida se concretizou em 2010, com o Processo Seletivo Especial (PSE). Neste artigo, pretende-se identificar quais são os desafios enfrentados na UFPA pelos indígenas discentes durante a graduação. Para realizar esta pesquisa, entrevistaram-se cinco graduandos.
