The relationship between teachers and the school library: a case study

Resumo: This paper is a summary of a research conducted in 2011 in the city of Uberlândia and aimed to show how teachers related to the school library for the development of reading and writing. The specific objectives were to identify how teachers used this space; to analyze the frequency that their students took and to verify what were the rules that the school imposed to its use. The methodology chosen was the case study of the ethnographic type in the qualitative approach, also used observation and interview. As a result, although teachers were concerned about the use of the library, we concluded that there was no such interaction between the teachers and the librarian. The trips to the library functioned only as a film show and reading was seen as punishment.

The trips to the library functioned only as a film show and reading was seen as punishment.Este artigo é resultado de uma pesquisa concluída em 2011 na cidade de Uberlândia MG e tem como objetivo mostrar como os professores relacionavam-se com a biblioteca da escola para o desenvolvimento da leitura e da escrita. Já os objetivos específicos compreendiam em identificar como os professores utilizavam esse espaço; analisar a frequência que levavam seus alunos a esse espaço escolar e verificar quais eram as regras que a escola impunha ao seu uso. A metodologia escolhida foi o estudo de caso do tipo etnográfico na abordagem qualitativa. Utilizou-se também da observação e da entrevista. Como resultado, apesar de os professores terem se preocupado com o uso da biblioteca, concluímos que não houve essa interação entre os docentes e a bibliotecária.
