The influence of prosodic aspects in the comprehension of spoken language and reading

Resumo: The study aimed to investigate the influence of prosodic aspects on comprehension of the spoken language and the relationship between this understanding and reading comprehension. The participants were 79 students from 7 to 11 years old, 39 of the 3rd grade and 40 of the 5th grade of basic education. The collected data showed, in listening comprehension capacity, the younger children and with lower education levels were more dependent on prosodic aspects. The older children and with higher education showed better performance on the reading comprehension on (Cloze). It was confirmed a relationship between the comprehension of spoken language and reading understanding among students in the early years.

It was confirmed a relationship between the comprehension of spoken language and reading understanding among students in the early years.El estudio tuvo por objetivo investigar la influencia de los aspectos prosódicos en la comprensión de la lengua hablada y la relación entre este entendimiento y la comprensión de lectura. 79 estudiantes participaron de siete a 11 años, 39 del tercer año y 40 del quinto año de la escuela primaria. Las pruebas aplicadas mostraron que, en la comprensión de escucha, los niños más pequeños y con menores niveles de educación fuéron más dependientes de los aspectos prosódicos. Los estudiantes con más escolaridade y mayores tuvieron un mejor desempeño en comprensión de lectura (Cloze). Se confirmó un vínculo entre la compreensión oral y la comprensión de lectura entre los estudiantes de los primeros años.Este estudo objetivou investigar a influência de aspectos prosódicos na compreensão da linguagem oral e a relação entre esta compreensão e a compreensão da leitura. Participaram 79 alunos de 7 a 11 anos, sendo 39 do 3º ano e 40 do 5º ano do ensino fundamental. As provas aplicadas mostraram que, na compreensão da escuta, as crianças mais novas e com menor nível de escolaridade foram mais dependentes dos aspectos prosódicos. Os alunos mais velhos e com maior escolaridade apresentaram melhor desempenho na compreensão leitora (Cloze).
