Interpretive Theory Applied to Community Translation in Africa

Resumo: According to the its basic principles, the théorie interprétative approaches the translation process as being mainly centered on how the meaning expressed in the source-text is understood and transferred into the target text. This theoretical approach is worthy of consideration in so far as it is not restricted to a given category of languages and proposes methodologies that call for a sharp separation of the act of translating from linguistic aspects of the source-text. This study aims to open a reflection on the relevance of the théorie interprétative and to question its universal nature with a view to a translation didactics in African languages.

Dans les principes qui en constituent le fondement, la théorie interprétative de la traduction prône une réflexion sur le processus de traduction principalement axée sur les mécanismes de quête et de transfert du sens exprimé dans l’original. Cette approche théorique de l’opération traduisante a surtout le mérite de ne pas être restreinte à une catégorie de langues donnée, tant les méthodes qu’elle propose invitent à une nette démarcation des contingences formelles que constitue la langue du texte-source. Cette étude ouvre une réflexion sur la pertinence de la théorie interprétative, dont elle interroge le caractère universel, dans une perspective de didactique de la traduction en langues africaines aux fins d’améliorer l’accès à une citoyenneté active des communautés locales. Com base nos princípios que a estruturam, a teoria interpretativa da tradução defende uma abordagem do processo de tradução centrada essencialmente nos mecanismos de busca e transferência do sentido expresso no original. Essa abordagem teórica do processo de tradução tem o mérito de não se restringir a uma categoria de línguas determinada, já que os métodos por ela propostos sugerem uma clara demarcação a partir das contingências formais da língua do texto-fonte.
