In Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables, the meeting between the Bishop Myriel and the conventional G. culminates in an ideological clash through dialogue. Throughout the discussion, it is possible to notice the manipulation of the speech by the characters-enunciators according to their purposes: the bishop, a religious and former aristocrat harmed by the French Revolution, aims to convert G. and condemn the movement for its atrocities. The conventional, on the other hand, as an ex-combatant revolutionary, seeks to highlight the values ​​of the Revolution defending its virtues. In this way, through discursive mechanisms used to express the enunciators' positions (discursive modalization), a kind of judgment of the historical event is established according to a typical morality of Judeo-Christian tradition. The statements initially conflicting finally reveal themselves in axiological convergence, which means that the revolutionary and the Christian values ​​are convergent, especially regarding the ideals of equality and fraternity translated into the Christian maxim of loving your neighbor as yourself followed by both enunciators.
