Teaching of biotechnology: teaching knowledge and approach in the perspective of the national examination of middle school

Resumo: The National Secondary Education Examination (Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio- ENEM) aims that schools adopt an interdisciplinary and contextualized education, being a requirement for entry into higher education institutions. In biology there is an area named Biotechnology, that relates to several technological activities important to society, but with ethical, social, political questions, among others. In this context, the present study aims to examine how biotechnology is addressed by teachers of the 3rd year of high school, focusing on ENEM. In order to accomplish this, analyzes were made of ENEM’s questions from 2009 to 2015, they were applied interviews with teachers from four public schools in the city of Fortaleza / CE. In the analysis of the ENEM exams, it was found that in all editions Biotechnology was addressed directly or indirectly, as transgenic, recombinant DNA, biofuels and stem cells. It was found that biotechnology is being taught in public schools in the city of Fortaleza / CE, but with little depth, since most of interviewed showed some discomfort in teaching the subject, lack of professional renovation, preventing a more secure opinion on certain matters disclosed; such insecurity ends up reflecting the presentation of content in the classroom.

Dentro de la biología, existe un área denominada Biotecnología que se relaciona con diversas actividades tecnológicas, importantes para la sociedad con preguntas éticas, sociales, políticas, entre otras. Dentro de ese contexto, el presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo analizar como la Biotecnología es abordada en la práctica docente de profesores de tercer año de educación media, enfocándose en el ENEM. Para alcanzar este objetivo, se hicieron analisis de las preguntas del ENEM del 2009 al 2015, y se realizaron entrevistas a profesores de cuatro escuelas públicas del municipio de Fortaleza/CE. En el análisis de las pruebas del ENEM, se verificó que la Biotecnología fuera cuestionada de forma directa o indirecta, como transgénicos, ADN recombinante, biocombustibles y células madre. Se constató que la biotecnología está siendo enseñada en escuelas de educación media en el municipio de Fortaleza/CE, sin embargo, con poca profundización, debido a que la mayoría de los entrevistados demostró cierta incomodidad en enseñar la temática y falta de actualización profesional, imposibilitando una opinión más segura sobre determinados asuntos divulgados; tal inseguridad se acaba reflejando en la presentación del contenido en la sala de clases.O Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio - ENEM busca que as escolas adotem um ensino interdisciplinar e contextualizado, sendo requisito para o ingresso em instituições de ensino superior. Dentro da Biologia existe uma área denominada de Biotecnologia, que se relaciona com diversas atividades tecnológicas, importantes para a sociedade, porém com questões éticas, sociais, políticas, entre outras. Dentro desse contexto, o presente trabalho objetivou analisar como a Biotecnologia é abordada na prática docente de professores do 3º ano do Ensino Médio, com vistas ao ENEM. A fim de alcançar este objetivo, foram feitas análises das questões do ENEM de 2009 a 2015 e foram aplicadas entrevistas com professores de quatro escolas públicas do município de Fortaleza/CE. Na análise das provas do Enem, verificou-se que em todas as edições a Biotecnologia foi questionada de forma direta ou indireta, com temas como transgênicos, DNA recombinante, biocombustíveis e células-tronco.
