Elementary and middle school female students’ attitudes about physical education

Resumo: | This study’s objective is to describe the attitudes that 5th to 8th grade female students have about physical education with respect to the following aspects: class enjoyment, attributed importance of subject matter, perceived benefits, preferences, and relative importance to other issues. An open- and closed-question questionnaire was administered to a sample of 151 female students. Physical education is strongly associated to sport, although dimensions of play, movement, and competition seem more important than do specific contents. Perceived benefits are related to body development, while, simultaneously, the content that is liked and disliked more than others is sport. It was concluded that female students perceive physical education peculiarly and ambiguously, and have favorable attitudes related to it, at least with regard to class participation. |

It was concluded that female students perceive physical education peculiarly and ambiguously, and have favorable attitudes related to it, at least with regard to class participation.O objetivo deste estudo é descrever a perspectiva que possuem da disciplina Educação Física, sob o ponto de vista de suas atitudes, alunas de 5ª à 8ª série do Ensino Fundamental, considerando os seguintes aspectos: gosto pelas aulas, importância atribuída à disciplina, benefícios percebidos, preferências, opinião com relação à obrigatoriedade e outros. Questionário compreendendo questões abertas e fechadas foi aplicado a uma amostra de 151 alunas do sexo feminino. A Educação Física é fortemente associada ao esporte, mas as dimensões do lúdico, do movimento e da competição parecem ser mais importantes do que os conteúdos específicos. Os benefícios percebidos incidem prioritariamente sobre o desenvolvimento corporal. O esporte é percebido, simultaneamente, como conteúdo de que mais gostam e menos gostam.
